Kim Kardashian wrapped up her three day visit to Kuwait and Bahrain where she helped launch new “Millions of Milkshakes” retail shops amid cheers and protests alike. The reality star praised the region for its natural beauty and the kindness of the people, according to Gulf News today. “It is my first visit to the country and I heard it was beautiful, but what I saw was beyond that”, Kim told fans in Bahrain. Kardashian also urged her fellow Americans to visit the countries, and said she plans to return in the future for a proper vacation. Kim wowed crowds in a typically tight fitting white cutout dress. Demonstrators gathered to protest her visit, chanting slogans as one held a banner that read, “none of our customs and traditions allow us to receive stars of porn movies”, as reported by USA Today. Kim was in Riffa, Bahrain Saturday, just south of the capital of Manama.

About 100 Sunni Salafists demonstrated outside “The Walk Bahrain”, an upscale mall in Manama, after some attempted to block Kim’s visit. MPs submitted an urgent proposal at the end of a parliamentary session where they referred to her as “an actress with an extremely bad reputation”, fearing she’d spread vice throughout the country.

Kardashian supporters see her visit as an opportunity to hold her up as a role model for successful women. Kim pledged to learn more about the Middle East following controversial comments she made about Palestine and Israel as she trekked to the desert to visit camels.

Kim became embroiled in controversy two weeks ago after first tweeting prayers for Israel, and then Palestine, causing a backlash from her fans. She later deleted the messages and issued an apology for any offense she may have caused.

Meanwhile, riot police fired tear gas to disperse more than 50 hard-line Islamic protesters who gathered to denounce Kim Kardashian’s visit to Riffa, some 20km south of the capital Manama in the Bahrain kingdom. Protesters chanted “God is Great” near the shopping complex, but the demonstrators were cleared before the Kim arrived.

Thousands of fans paid up to 500 Bahraini dinars ($1,360) a ticket to watch as Kim Kardashian, 32, launched the “Millions of Milkshakes” franchise inside the mall. As fans screamed hysterically while the procession made its way inside, eyewitnesses said police dispersed the demonstrators using stun grenades. No injuries were reported.

Kim called Bahrain, “the prettiest place on earth”, on her Twitter account. The message was later re-tweeted by Bahrain’s foreign minister, according to Sky News. “I was on the phone with my sisters and family telling them how beautiful it is. The country has lovely beaches and desert”, she told the fans who gathered to greet her.

Of course, Kim might have opted to tone down her fashion a bit for her visit, not that it would likely have done anything to quell her detractors. But often women from the West choose to adopt a more conservative dress when visiting countries in the Middle East.

Kim Kardashian however, wowed crowds in the desert with her form fitting white dress, with plenty of skin showing. Kim probably knew there was no way she was going to win over her protesters, so she probably figured she’d give her fans what they expect to see.
